LakePoint, Ga. – For the sixth time in his career and for the second time this season, Lipscomb senior Wayne Newman has been named the ASUN Male Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday.
Newman earned his second ASUN track weekly award of the 2016-17 season after his performance at the Emory Crossplex Invitational over the weekend.
The Arizona native won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.02 seconds, two-tenths faster than the rest of the field. He now has the top three times in the event in the conference so far this season.
He also raced in the 400m, placing seventh out of a field of 52 with a 49.61 second mark.
The senior has now collected six total ASUN weekly awards, with four coming from outdoor and the pair from the current indoor season.
Newman’s performance helped Lipscomb’s men’s squad finish six out of 22 schools with 48 total points at the meet.
The Lipscomb track and field squad will be back in action on Feb. 3 as the Bisons travel to Illinois for the SIU Invite.
