Track and field splits for pair of weekend meets

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad will again be splitting up for the weekend as the Bisons head to the Chipotle Marshall Invite and the Husky Classic.

The weekend meets will be the final tests for the Purple and the Gold before the ASUN Indoor Championships at the end of the month.

“For almost everybody, this will be the last opportunity to get times in before Conference,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field said. “We want to make sure we’re polished and ready to take that next step along with getting ready for the bigger picture with outdoor season as well.”

The Bisons are looking to build on last weekend’s successful meets that saw standout performances from the likes of seniors Wayne Newman and Jacob Poyner, junior Kacey Kemper, and sophomore Brooke Kingma.

Newman’s time in the 60m hurdles of 7.97 seconds was the fastest in the ASUN so far this season. Poyner and Kingma both took fifth in the men’s and women’s mile run, respectively, while Kemper placed third in the 3000m.

“We’re getting better,” Taylor said. “That’s really what we’re looking for at this time of year. We had some standout performances last weekend, so we’re headed in the right direction.”
