LAKEPOINT, Ga. – After his performance in the ASUN Indoor Championships, Lipscomb senior Wayne Newman has been named the Men’s Most Outstanding Track Performer, as announced by the league offices on Friday.
“Wayne is an amazing athlete and an even more extraordinary person,” Lipscomb Director of Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “He deserves every honor he gets.”
Newman’s meet was highlighted by a four-peat in the 60m hurdles. He earned his fourth consecutive win in the event at the ASUN Indoor Championships with a blazing time of 7.91 seconds.
The Arizona native also earned an All-Conference nod in the 200m by placing second in the 200m with a time of 22.12 seconds.
Newman nearly grabbed a third All-Conference spot in the 60m. He finished fourth with a mark of 6.969 seconds, just behind teammate Ahmed Amaar who placed third with a time of 9.694 seconds.
On day one of the meet, Newman set a school indoor record in the 60m hurdles as he turned in a speedy time of 7.85 seconds in the preliminaries.
“He was a workhorse for the team at conference,” Taylor said. “Winning the 60m hurdles four years in a row is an amazing feat. He has faced very tough competition every year. Doing other events for us, and doing them at an incredibly high level shows the kind of heart he has, and how big of a team player he is."
