LakePoint, Ga. – For the seventh time in his career and the first time this outdoor season, senior Wayne Newman has been named the ASUN Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday.
It was the fifth outdoor weekly honor for Newman in his career and third win of the 2016-17 season after nabbing two during the indoor campaign.
The Arizona native excelled in his home state over the weekend at the University of Arizona Willie Williams Invite.
He won the 110m high hurdles with a time of 14.05 seconds, the seventh-best time in the country and the best time in the ASUN by more than a second so far this season.
He also placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.66 seconds, which is the fourth-best mark in the East Region and the best time in the conference.
Newman and the Bisons will be back in action this weekend as the squad will split between the Raleigh Relays and the Joe Walker Invite.
