Track and field heads to Raleigh Relays, Joe Walker Invite

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad will be splitting up in the second weekend of the outdoor campaign as part of the Bisons will be headed to the Raleigh Relays, while the rest will take on the Joe Walker Invitational.

The Raleigh Relays will feature 100 schools from across the country, while the Joe Walker Invite will feature similarly tough competition, including nationally-ranked Ole Miss.

“We are primarily sending distance runners to Raleigh,” Lipscomb Director of Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “Some of our top distance guys will be there, and Barbara Lee Ball is going to run the 10K. There is a tough field of competition there, so it will be a great test for them. The rest of the athletes are going to Ole Miss.”

The Purple and Gold had a solid start to the outdoor campaign last week at the Rhodes College Invite in Memphis, despite the continued absence several women’s distance runners due to sickness.

“A lot of the women’s distance runners are still about a week away,” Taylor said. “They’re not sick anymore, but they lost so much time when they were sick, so we’re taking our time getting them back.

“We’re dropping most of our girls down to 1500m and playing with some speeds,” Taylor said. “It will be a different weekend for the distance, but other events are going to do their normal things to try to improve on their times.”
