Track and field set for Crimson Tide Invite, Berry Field Day

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad will be taking on two meets over the weekend as Bisons begin the final month of the regular season with the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and the Berry Field Day in Mount Berry, Georgia.

The Crimson Tide Invite will provide a challenge for the Purple and Gold as the hosts are ranked no. 4 in the nation for the men and no. 17 for the women. It will also feature other SEC schools such as Missouri and Mississippi State.

“We’re experienced in running against SEC schools,” Lipscomb Director of Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “The bigger meets are usually out on the west coast and the east coast, so I think we’re pretty used to this, which is what I want. I don’t want them to think it’s a big deal. It’s always fun to go to schools like that and compete.”

The meet will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, pick up on 12:30 Saturday afternoon, and continue on through Saturday night.

The action at Berry will kick off on Friday at 4 p.m. It will then re-start on Saturday at 9 in the morning before concluding that afternoon.

The Bisons are looking to build off of their success from the Joey Haines Invite during their last time out, which included two individual wins from senior Katie Bianchini in the 1500m and sophomore Austin Peters in the 3000m Steeplechase.

“We’re really happy with what we’re doing,” Taylor said. “Again, I feel like we’re really close to a big breakthrough with the attitude and effort; everything is incredible. It’s nice to keep getting people back from sickness.”
