INDIANAPOLIS – Three Lipscomb student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Region Preliminaries, as announced by the NCAA offices on Thursday.
Senior Wayne Newman and juniors Juan Gonzalez and Kacey Kemper each qualified for the East Region Prelims, giving them a chance to compete for a spot at the NCAA Division I National Championships.
This is Newman’s third consecutive year qualifying for the East Prelims. He has qualified in the 110m hurdles in each of those three years and for the 400m hurdles in both of the past two seasons.
His time of 13.99 seconds in the 110m hurdles ranks him 22nd in the field, while his 51.96 second-mark is 27th in the 400m field.
This marks the first-ever East Prelims qualification for both Gonzalez and Kemper. Gonzalez earned his spot with the 35th-ranked time of 29:39.92 in the 10,000m. Kemper placed 33rd in the 3000m Steeplechase with a mark of 10:23.22.
The competition will take place at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Kentucky from May 25-27.
