Track and field heads to Kentucky for East Region Prelims

NASHVILLE – Three members of the Lipscomb track and field squad will be headed to Lexington, Kentucky this weekend for the NCAA Division I East Region Preliminaries to compete across four events for a spot in the National Championships.  

The meet will kick off on Thursday at the University of Kentucky with senior Wayne Newman competing in the first event of the competition, the first round of the 400m hurdles, at 4:30 p.m. This is Newman’s second-consecutive season qualifying for the event. This year, he qualified with a time of 51.96 seconds for the 27th spot in the field.

Later that night, junior Juan Gonzalez will race in the 10,000m at approximately 9:40. Gonzalez qualified for his first National Championship Prelim with a time of 29:39.92, the 35th-best mark in the field.

Newman will once again kick things off on Saturday, as the Arizona native will take on the 110m hurdles at 5 p.m. He qualified for the event with a time of 13.99 seconds, the 22nd best time in the field. It is his third-consecutive season qualifying in the event.

Junior Kacey Kemper will be the last Bison to hit the track as she will take part in the 3000m Steeplechase on Friday night at 8:20. She is making her first-ever Prelim appearance thanks to a 10:23.22 time that sits her in the 33rd spot in the field.
