LakePoint, Ga. – After a top-notch performance at the ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships, Lipscomb’s Jonathan Schwind has been voted the Men’s Most Outstanding Freshman Performer.
Schwind competed in four events at the Championships, landing on the podium in all four.
"Jonathan certainly deserves this honor,” Lipscomb Director of Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “He is a very exciting runner to watch compete.
“His success at the ASUN meet was impressive; however, how he runs is even more exciting than the result. It is just plain fun to watch him race. I know the coaching staff and our athletes are excited to watch him race more this outdoor season."
The Georgia native won the ASUN crown in the mile run, smashing the conference record in the process with a time of 4:08.15.
The freshman finished third in the 800m with a 1:52.46 mark, behind teammate Ryan Speer’s ASUN-record time in first place.
Schwind was also a key part of two first-place relay teams for Lipscomb.
In the distance medley relay, Schwind ran anchor as the Bisons set a school indoor record and notched the second-best time in ASUN history at 10:05.07.
In the 4x400m, Schwind helped the Purple and Gold place first with a 3:17.39 mark.
Schwind was twice named the ASUN Track Athlete of the Week this season. His first win came after a stellar performance at the Samford Open, while the second honor came after a record-setting weekend at the Music City Challenge.
Schwind and the rest of the Bisons will hit the track again on March 16 at the Rhodes Invite to kick off the outdoor campaign.
