NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb track and field squad completed another successful weekend as the Bisons split up for a trio of meets spread out across the southeast.
At the Florida Relays, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville, junior Ryan Speer led the way with a school outdoor record time of 1:49.34 to finish 12th in the 800m. Speer set a new personal record and finished second in his heat.
Redshirt-senior Wayne Newman won his heat and finished 12th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.02 seconds. He also finished 18th in the 110m hurdles with a 14.19 seconds mark.
At the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, sophomore Courtney Brenner led the charge with a personal record time of 16:25.73 to place 19th in the 1500m.
Freshman Silas Griffith finished with a time of 14:44.07 to place 66th out of a field of 150 runners in the 5000m, while sophomore Chase Hampton grabbed 15th in the 3000m steeplechase with a mark of 9:13.31.
At the Joey Haines Invite, hosted by Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Lipscomb swept the top four spots in the women’s 5000m as redshirt-junior Avery Franklin (17:47.27) ans freshmen Kayla Rudie (17:52.52), Haley Kling (17:58.03), and Grace Lahey (18:122.21) finished first through fourth.
In the 200m, freshman Friederike Matthes won with a time of 25.38 seconds, while fellow freshmen Teanna Jules (26.18) and Tia Calvin (26.83) came in fourth and fifth.
In the 400m hurdles, freshman Jada Bogle placed second in 1:11.84, while fellow freshman Jacob Snyder earned third in the men’s race in 55.68 seconds.
Senior Mitch Zabka and sophomore Robert Rupp took the top two spots in the 3000m steeplechase with times of 9:41.02 and 9:46.14.
Sophomore Owen Glogovsky finished fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:06.10.
The track and field squad will have next weekend off before coming back for a pair of meets in two weeks.
