NASHVILLE – Three Lipscomb student-athletes have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships East Region Preliminaries, as announced by the NCAA offices on Thursday.
Senior Wayne Newman, junior Ryan Speer, and sophomore Courtney Brenner have each posted strong enough times in their respective events to qualify for the East Region Prelims.
Newman will be competing in two events, the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles, for the third consecutive year at the Prelims. He qualified for just the 110m hurdles during his freshman campaign.
Newman is seeded 16th in the 400m hurdles (51.28 seconds) and 19th in the 110m hurdles (13.82 seconds).
Speer and Brenner will each be competing at the Prelims for the first time.
Brenner qualified in the 10,000m, while Speer will be running the 800m.
Brenner is seeded 13th in her event (34:03.77), and Speer is placed at 29th (1:49.31).
The competition will take place in Tampa, Florida from May 24-26. Check back here for a full preview of the meet next week.
