LYNCHBURG, Va. – Day one of the ASUN Indoor Championships is in the books for the Lipscomb track and field squad, and the Bisons came away with a pair of wins after a strong start to the weekend.
Lipscomb junior Courtney Brenner led the way by winning the ASUN title in the 3000m. Brenner finished first in a time of 9:44.48, 15 seconds ahead of second place for a dominant performance.
The men’s distance medley relay team also came through with a win, earning first in an ASUN record-breaking time of 9:57.31. Junior Zach Israel, sophomore Jonathan Imes, redshirt-junior Ryan Speer, and junior Jonathan Schwind comprised the medal-winning crew.
Israel also grabbed a podium spot in the men’s 3000m, finishing in third with a time of 8:15.88.
Sophomore Grace Lahey joined Brenner in the points-earning spots in the women’s 3000m, placing fourth with a time of 10:02.13.
Sophomore Lauren Flynt (10:08.16), sophomore Kayla Rudie (10:08.88), and junior Brooke Kingma (10:09.25) followed in eighth, ninth, and 10th, respectively.
On the men’s side, sophomore Silas Griffith (8:35.40) and senior Kyle Johnson (8:35.68) earned eighth and 10th.
Sophomore Grant Mason (6. 91 seconds) and junior Randolph Wilkerson (6.99 secons) qualified for the finals of the 60m dash tomorrow.
The Bisons will hit the track early tomorrow morning at 8:45, with the final event starting a 4 p.m. There will be an awards ceremony at 4:30 following the final event.
