NEW YORK – Former Lipscomb star Wayne Newman competed at the USA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in February where he placed eighth in the nation in the 60m hurdles.
The Arizona native finished third in his heat and sixth overall in the preliminary round with a blazing time of 7.98 seconds to qualify for the final. In the final, Newman with a time of 8.03 seconds.
Newman is currently serving as a volunteer coach with the Lipscomb track and field squad while having a full-time job as a nurse and continuing his professional track career.
To further the program connections, Lipscomb track and field assistant Marcus Evans is Newman’s coach.
The two plan to train next for the USA Outdoor Championships, which take place from July 25-28 in Des Moines, Iowa, followed by the Pan American Games, which take place August 6-10 in Lima, Peru.
As a Bison, Newman racked up a number of accolades including 10 conference championships, three ASUN Most Outstanding Track Performer honors, four ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, a school record 11 ASUN Runner of the Week awards, seven National Championship Prelim qualifications.
