Brenner named Indoor Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Bisons land five nods

ATLANTA – The Lipscomb track and field squad earned five All-Academic distinctions on Tuesday afternoon as Courtney Brenner was named the ASUN Women’s Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year and four other Bisons were named to the All-Academic team.

Brenner, who was recently named the Most Outstanding Performer at the ASUN Indoor Track and Field Championships, was voted the Scholar-Athlete of the Year after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Dietetics major.

The junior earned her second consecutive All-Academic nod for indoor track and fourth overall. She also has nods for outdoor track and cross country, where she was also named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year in the fall.

Four more Bisons made the men’s All-Academic squad: seniors Ryan Speer, Kyle Johnson, and Nathan Morgan, and junior Zach Israel. Speer and Johnson were unanimously chosen.

This is Speer’s third consecutive Indoor All-Academic nod and fourth overall. The Business major compiled a 3.81 GPA.

Morgan has earned two previous nods, one each for indoor and outdoor. The Accounting major has a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Johnson was named to his first All-Academic nod thanks to a 3.42 GPA as an Engineering major.

Israel also earned his first-ever nod, posting a 3.37 GPA in Accounting.
