ATLANTA - The Lipscomb track and field squad nearly swept this week’s ASUN weekly awards for their performance in Birmingham, Alabama over the weekend.
Ahmed Amaar was named the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, Haley Kling was named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, and Maddie Moody was named the Women’s Freshman of the Week.
In what was their first meet of 2020, the Bisons came out with their highest weekly wins total, with all three honorees being first-time winners.
On Friday, Amaar placed eighth in his heat for the 60m dash, qualifying for the finals. In the finals, he placed 15th with a time of 6.93 seconds. On Saturday, the redshirt-junior finished eighth in the 200m with a time of 22.40 seconds.
Kling started off the weekend with a sixth-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 10:26.59. She followed that up with a seventh-place finish in the mile on Saturday with a 5:17.68 mark.
Moody kicked things off on Friday with an 11th-place finish in the 3000m, closing with a time of 10:41.12. On Saturday, she grabbed 10th in the mile with a time of 5:26.57.
After a strong start to the season, fans will have the chance to see Lipscomb in action in Nashville for the only time during indoor season as they take on the Vanderbilt Invitational this weekend.
