COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Lipscomb track and field squad had a strong weekend at the South Carolina Invitational as the Bisons picked up a pair of wins, 10 top-five spots, 16 top-10 spots, and broke a school record.
Junior Jonathan Scwhind set a new school indoor record in the 800m, blazing to a time of 1:49.61, nearly two seconds faster than the competition.
The Bisons also swept the top two spots in the men’s 5000m. Junior Sam Shaylor won first place with a top-notch time of 14:42.86, while fellow junior Patrick Smith came in second in 14:43.17. Both times broke the facility record at the South Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.
Seniors Owen Glogovsky (15:02.45) and Brody Beiler (15:18.54) came in sixth and 10th.
In the women’s mile run, junior Lauren Flynt (4:57.50) and senior Courtney Brenner (5:00.47) finished back-to-back in second and third, while sophomore Grace Oetting (5:06.32) finished seventh.
In the men’s mile, the Bisons had three of the top five as junior Brent Leber (4:09.31) finished second, senior Zach Israel (4:11.22) finished fourth, and freshman Scott McKenzie (4:12.54) finished fifth. Freshmen Brady Johnson (4:17.27) and Brian Risse (4:22.47) were 13th and 20th.
In the women's 5000m, Lipscomb had three of the top 12: sophomore Lindsay Marriott 17:44.63) in fourth, freshman Maddie Moody (18:16.28) in eighth, and sophomore Haley Humphrey (18:34.46) in 12th.
Junior Ahmed Amaar placed fifth in the finals of the men’s 60m dash with a time of 6.98 seconds.
In the women’s 3000m, junior Kayla Rudie took eighth in 10:12.99
In the men’s 400m, Jonathan Imes placed 10th in 47.92 seconds.
Sophomore Sam Kuhn was 11th in the men’s 3000m in 8:49.81.
Senior Brandon Belloni was 13th in the men’s long jump with a leap of 6.52m.
Junior Grant Mason finished 15th in the men’s 200m with a time of 21.64 seconds.
