NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb track and field squad is trekking up to Lynchburg, Virginia this weekend for the 2020 ASUN Indoor Championships. The meet kicks off on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and continues all day Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
The Bisons head into the weekend with their sights set on a number of All-Conference honors.
Senior Courtney Brenner, the reigning ASUN Most Outstanding Women’s Track Performer, looks to defend her conference crowns in 3000m and the 5000m. She heads into the meet with the ASUN’s top time in the 5000m on the season, with sophomore Grace Oetting and junior Lauren Flynt in second and third. Brenner also has the second-best 3000m time so far this year.
On the men’s side, four Bisons enter the championship meet with the ASUN’s top mark so far in 2020: junior Jonathan Imes in the 400m, junior Jonathan Schwind in the 800m, senior Zach Israel in the 3000m, and junior Brent Leber in the 5000m. Schwind won the mile and 800m last season, and the Distance Medley Relay squad also took home first place.
Other top-five times on the season for the men include: Ahmed Amaar (third) and Grant Mason (fourth) in the 60m, Mason (third) and Imes (fourth) in the 200m, Demontae Wilson (fifth) in the 400m, Ryan Bush (third) in the 800m, Schwind (second) and Leber (fifth) in the mile, Leber (second) and Scott McKenzie (fifth) in the 3000m, and Sam Shaylor (second) and Patrick Smith (third) in the 5000m.
Liberty are the reigning champs on the men’s side, while Lipscomb finished in a tie for third. On the women’s side, the Flames also won in 2019 with the Lady Bisons taking fifth.
