Lipscomb's bats came alive in the ninth inning against the Tennessee Vols Tuesday night. But while they gave the No.11-ranked Southeastern Conference power a scare, the Bisons fell 7-6.
The Bisons scored two runs on four hits in the first eight innings. A double by Whit Reed to right-center in the top of the fifth was the first hit of the game for the Bisons. A single by Jeff Baumgartner, the only Lipscomb batter to get two hits in the game, brought Reed home.
In the ninth inning the Bisons put four hits and four runs on the board. David Becker, in a pinch-hitting role, doubled to right to send in a run. Preston Embrey brought home a run with a single. A single by Ryan Price sent Becker and Embrey into score.
Zack Duncan made an unusual non-weekend start for the Bisons. He gave up six runs, five earned, and six hits in two innings. He also walked four batters.
Seth Kuwik pitched the final six innings, holding the Vols to one unearned run on two hits. Kuwik struck out four and walked one.
Tennessee is 37-16. The Bisons are 22-31. It was the second meeting between the two schools.
