The Lipscomb Bisons dropped their final two games of the season, falling 8-1 in game one of a doubleheader against Jacksonville and falling 6-2 in the season finale.
Game one saw Jacksonville plate a run in the first as Brian Hudgins led off the game with a single before stealing two bases in the inning. Hudgins crossed home as Gordie Gronkowski grounded out to give Dolphins starter D.J. Ackley the early lead. JU would add a run in the top of the fifth when Hudgins drove in Pete Clifford who reached on a double earlier in the inning.
The Bisons responded in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own with a two-out rally. Tad Brewer was hit by a pitch and scored on a Nathan Sensing single through the left side.
However, JU responded with two runs in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings to take game one of the doubleheader 8-1.
Ackley picked moved to 6-3 for Jacksonville working 6.0 innings while allowing one run. Lipscomb starter Robby Smithson worked 5.1 innings of action, giving up nine hits and four runs while striking out four batters. Four Dolphins recorded multiple hit games with Hudgins collecting three hits in the game. For the Bisons, Allen Bolden, Ryan Mitchell, Nathin Sensing and Justin Sanders each recorded a hit while Patrick O'Rourke delivered a pair of singles for the Bisons.
In game two, shortened to only seven innings, JU again struck in the first inning with a pair of runs on two hits. The Dolphins added three more runs in the top of the second with Gronkowski driving in a pair of runs in the inning.
After a 32 minute rain delay in the second, JU scored a run in the top of the fourth off of three hits. The Bisons responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Sensing led off the inning with a double. After a pair of walks drawn by Jeff Baumgartner and David Becker, Whit Reed drove in the Bisons first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly. Preston Embry then ripped a single through the left side to score the second run of the inning.
Lipscomb saw five seniors collect hits in their final collegiate game. Embry and O'Rourke each went 2-for-3 in the contest, while Tad Brewer went 2-for-4. Ryan Mitchell, Nathan Sensing each went 1-for-4.
The Bisons conclude their season with a 22-32 record overall and an 11-19 mark in the Atlantic Sun.
