Bisons Take 87-73 Victory Over Freed-Hardeman In Exhibition

Lipscomb's Bisons placed four players in double figures in scoring in an 87-73 victory over Freed-HardemanUniversity Tuesday night in an exhibition game.

A raucous crowd of 1,669 fans in Allen Arena watched the rematch with one of the major NAIA rivals for the Bisons before their move to NCAA Division I.

"It's good to get a first win," said Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson. "I liked the new guys mixed in with our old players. We are looking forward to a good season."

James Poindexter led the way for the Bisons with 19 points. Matt Jarboe added 14, Brian Fisk scored 12 and Shaun Durant put in 10. Poindexter also led the Bisons in rebounds with eight.

"Durant is big and athletic," Sanderson said. "He is almost too athletic. Poindexter carried us."

Daniel Bandy led Freed-Hardeman in scoring with a game-high 21 points. Esmir Guzonjic added 17 while grabbing a game-high nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Nathan Aaron also was in double figures with 10 points.

"I liked the play of our offense," said Sanderson. "We really need to work on our defense."

Freed-Hardeman had played four regular season games. For the Bisons it was their first time to play this season under regular game conditions. Sanderson was pleased with the debut of freshman point guard LaBrian Lyons who scored all six of his points from the free throw line, but also added a game-high seven assists.

The Bisons led 43-34 at halftime. Freed-Hardeman made a run early in the second half, trimming the Bisons lead to two points at 53-51 on a 3-pointer by Bandy at 13:48.

"When you get up big, you've got to keep them out," Sanderson said. I'm real proud of our guys hanging in and finishing the game off."

Lipscomb opens the regular season Sunday on the road at the University ofMinnesota .
