Lady Bisons Earn First A-Sun Softball Tourney Berth With 2-2 Split

Lipscomb's Lady Bisons softball team earned a 2-2 split on its last road trip of the regular season and guaranteed their first ever spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference Softball Tournament.

The Lady Bisons have only four conference games left and can finish no worse than 10-10.

Sunday afternoon at Mercer the Lady Bisons finished up a busy weekend in Georgia splitting a pair of games in Macon at Sikes Field. The Lady Bisons fell 13-4 in five innings in game one, but rallied in the nightcap to take an 8-3 victory.

The Lady Bisons made the first move in game one, scoring three runs. Jessica Wilson drove in one run. Heather Collins added a two-run homer.

A three-run home run by Meghan Clark off of Lipscomb starter Sara Meek tied the game in the first at 3-3. The home runs continued for Mercer in the second inning with a two-run shot by Kerri Ryskamp and another two-run homer by Clark.

A grand slam by Mercer's Ashley Anderson was the big hit in a six-run fourth inning. Anderson finished the season with two home runs, both grand slams.

In game two the Lady Bisons once again started the game by scoring. Wilson hit a two-run homer. The Lady Bisons ended game one when Larson and Sullivan hit their first career homeruns as Lady Bisons.

The Lady Bisons added one run in the second on an RBI-double by Wilson who finished with four runs batted in. In the third the Lady Bisons picked up another run, this time on a double by Lindsay Larson.

The Lady Bisons added another run in the sixth, and three in the seventh, to ice the victory.

Danielle Catalano won her fifth straight game. She gave up six hits and three runs, two earned in the complete game effort. She walked four and struck out five.

Mercer closed out its season with a 7-13 conference record.

The Lady Bisons waited an extra day to play Georgia State due to inclement weather, and then both teams managed only one run each on Saturday. Lipscomb won game one 1-0 on a solo home run by Julia Davidson. Catalano kept her winning streak alive picking up the win. She allowed five hits and struck out six.
