The Lady Bisons fell 2-0 and 5-4 Tuesday afternoon to visiting Austin Peay on a hot and sunny day at Draper Diamond on the Lipscomb campus.
Sara Meek pitched and outstanding first game for the Lady Bisons, striking out 12 allowing just two hits in the 2-0 loss.
A throwing error in the second inning produced the first Austin Peay run. In the fourth a throwing error also allowed in a run for Austin Peay.
The Lady Bisons pounded out nine hits in the opening game with Leigh Little leading the way with four hits in four trips to the plate from the leadoff spot. She would add three more hits in game two, going 7-of-8 for the day.
Her double down the left field line in the third inning was the only extra base hit for either side game one.
Julia Davidson had a pair of singles in three trips to the plate in game one for the Lady Bisons.
In game two Austin Peay's bats came alive as they struck for 13 hits.
The game was scoreless for the first four innings.
In the top of the fifth Austin Peay scored four runs on six hits and one error.
The Lady Bisons rallied in the bottom of the fifth for three runs. Alysha Forsythe led off by reaching base on an error by the first baseman. After Kim Jacobson popped up to the shortstop, Little singled through the left side. Niki Bails tripled to right center to score Forsythe and Little. Davidson then moved Bails across the plate with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Both teams were scoreless in the sixth inning.
In the seventh Austin Peay scored a run. The Lady Bisons answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, but their rally fell short.
Forsythe led off the inning with a walk. Jacobson placed a sacrifice bunt down the third base line to move Forsythe to second. Forsythe then went to third on passed ball. Little singled to left field with her last hit of the day scoring Forysthe.
Jacobson started on the mound for the Lady Bisons. She allowed five runs, all earned, on 12 hits. She struck out two batters and did not walk anyone.
Falon Catalano closed out the game for the Lady Bisons. She gave up one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
The Lady Bisons are 13-29 for the season. They will be back at Draper Diamond Thursday at 2 p.m. for an Atlantic Sun doubleheader with Kennesaw State.
