The Lady Bison track & field team competed in the Atlantic-Sun Championships this weekend finishing 9th place in the overall standings.

The young team compiled nine top-10 finishes and set five school records, perhaps the team's best day since the program began four years ago.

"I couldn't be any prouder of our girls with how they performed this weekend," said head coach Clay Nicks. "Everyone of them stepped up and almost all of them set personal bests."

Leading the way for the Lady Bisons was sophomore Ruth Mick with a third place finish in the 800 meter run (2:14.64). Mick's performance set a school record (and personal best) and gave her All-Conference honors.

"I' was very happy with Ruth," said Nicks. "She had a great race plan and stuck to it.".

Mick also finished 9th overall in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Sophomore Elizabeth Schall beat her own school mark in the 1500 meter run, finishing fourth place with a time of 4:37.08. Freshman Jessie Strange set a personal best in the javelin (35.70m), good enough for a fourth place finish. Sophomore Brittany Miller also had a fourth place finish, running a 1:04.93 in the 400 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Shannon Childs set two personal bests and two school marks in the long jump and 200 meter dash (5.07m and 26.04). Other top-10 performances included a seventh and ninth place finish in the 10,000 meter run by sophomore Susan Worden (38:17) and junior Candice Cox (39:27.44). Samantha Wood had an 11th place showing in the 5000 meter run (18:28.84) which set a school mark at that distance.

"We have grown a lot during the past four years as a program," Nicks said. "This team is young (only one senior) and I expect they will continue to get better over the next few years."

Some of the team will continue to compete this weekend at the Vanderbilt Invitational
