Lipscomb University volleyball coach Brandon Rosenthal is not known for shying away from competition.
The 2007 schedule is no exception with the Lady Bisons opening the season with four tournaments in August and September.
"I am very excited about this upcoming year's schedule," said Rosenthal who guided the Lady Bisons to their first Atlantic Sun Tournament berth last season. ""Once again we have focused our efforts in playing a tough schedule to better prepare us for the conference season.
"This year the Lipscomb Volleyball team will travel the furthest it has ever been, out to California to take part in the Cal State Fullerton tournament. It should be a great tournament and I would expect Lipscomb to be well represented. With three of our players from California and me being from California I am expecting a big crowd wearing purple and gold."
The Lady Bisons open the season in Birmingham, Ala., Aug. 26 for the Magic/Music Invitational. The Lady Bisons will face Birmingham-Southern and Samford.
On Sept. 1 and 2 the Lady Bisons will travel to Manhattan, Kans., to face two top 25 teams from last season -- host Kansas State and Wichita State. Also in the tournament is Montana State.
The next weekend (Sept. 8-9) the Lady Bisons travel to Memphis for the University of Memphis Invitational. The Lady Bisons will play host Memphis, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas-Little Rock and Southeast Missouri State.
The Fullerton Classic closes out the tournament schedule for the Lady Bisons as they face host Cal State-Fullerton, San Diego State and Penn.
Things will heat up in the last week of September as the Lady Bisons will start their journey towards the 2006 NCAA Tournament as they will travel to A-Sun opponents Mercer and Stetson on Sept. 29 and 30. The final two conference games on the road are Oct. 20 at Kennesaw State, in its first year of competition; and East Tennessee State (Oct. 21).
The following weekend the Battle of the Boulevard comes to Allen Arena as Belmont comes to take on the Lady Bisons on October 7.
The home opener is Sept. 26 when Austin Peay visits Allen Arena. Rounding out the home slate are non-conference games with the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Oct. 10, the University of Tennessee-Martin on Oct. 24 and Tennessee State on Oct. 31.
Conference home games, in addition to Belmont, are Campbell (Oct. 13), Gardner Webb (Oct. 14), Jacksonville (Nov.3) and North Florida (Nov. 4).
"This is an exciting year for us," said Rosenthal. "With the progress that we saw last year and the first round win in the conference tournament, I feel that this team made a statement and is looking to improve on last year and once again take this program to uncharted territories."
The Lady Bisons were 13-20 overall last season. They were 5-4 in the A-Sun, earning the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.
