Down by 15 runs in the ninth, the Bisons used a 10 run rally to pull within five, but it was not enough as they were defeated by Tennessee-Martin 20-15, on Wednesday, April 25.
The Bisons quickly found themselves in a 7-0 hole after three innings. Lipscomb' starter, Josh Spicer, lasting just 1.2 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits. He was relieved by John King in the second. King would pitch the next 1.1 innings giving up three runs, one earned, on five hits.
The Bisons meanwhile, finally broke through with two runs of their own on a two-run double off the bat of Caleb Joseph in the fourth. After UT-Martin increased their lead to 10-2 with three runs in the bottom of the inning, the Bisons struck for three more of their own in the fifth.
After Branden Cadavid doubled to lead off the inning, Donnie Amos drilled his first home run of the season to right center to bring the score to 10-4. Joseph doubled home another run to pull the Bisons to within five.
Right-hander, Matt Schnelly, entered the game to relieve King in the fourth and gave up three unearned runs in one inning of work. Schnelly was relieved by left-hander Paul Piennette, who would remain in the game until the eighth. In three innings, Piennette gave up six runs on 11 hits.
The Final Bisons' pitcher of the afternoon would be right-hander Matt Bowling, who relieved Piennette to start the eighth. In his inning of work, he gave up four unearned runs on three hits.
The Bisons' pitching problems were compounded by five errors, which led to ten unearned runs.
The Bisons attempted to mount a comeback in the ninth. The inning which was highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Jared Picchiottino and Joseph's three-run homer, also feature RBIs from Andrew Kincaide and Justin Sanders.
Joseph led the Bisons on offense with three hits and six RBIs. Picchiottino added two hits and four RBIs of his own.
With the loss, the Bisons dropped to 25-18 on the season.
The team will return home to take on conference rival, Belmont in a three game series on April 27-29.
