Charles Morrow officially starts year two as the head coach of the Lipscomb Bisons soccer team Friday night when Birmingham-Southern visits in the home and regular season opener.
The game can be heard on Lipscomb Live on the internet with former Bisons soccer player Wes Claiborne handling the play-by-play. Game time is at 7.
"I think Birmingham-Southern will be a good test," said Morrow. "They are a good team. They are going NCAA Division III in a couple of years, but that shouldn't impact the product they put out there this year. I know the guys thought that Birmingham-Southern was one of the tougher teams we played last year."
Morrow knows his team, like most programs, is still struggling to find an identity and consistency.
"There are still a lot of unknowns at the point in the season," Morrow said. "This will be a good opportunity for is to try to figure some things out and hopefully come together a little bit as a team.
"We are talented, but we just not clicking like we need to be right now. The guys are trying. It is just a matter of time."
The Bisons played on the road at the University of Memphis last Saturday in an exhibition, losing 2-0.
"I think the guys learned that just because you are talented or you think you are talented nothing is going to be given to you," Morrow said. "I felt like Memphis outworked us. More than anything our team has to bring a work ethic that is second to none.
"We need to be better in breaking a game down on the field, on the fly. That is something that we did not do well. I told the guys they have to be warriors on the field, but they also have to be problem solvers. At times the effort was there, but we weren't problem solving and some things weren't working."
Morrow admits it is tough to single out any individual players for recognition during preseason.
:"The last couple of weeks have on the guys," said Morrow. "It is hard to be impressive every season."
"Some of their leadership, intensity and drive will wear off on some of the newcomers," said Morrow. "This season is going to be a process for sure. I would anticipate this team being totally different team toward the end of the seasons than what fans are going to see Friday night."
