The Lady Bisons avoided a case of the "Statesboro Blues" splitting four games in the Georgia Southern Classic.
Sunday the Lady Bisons opened with a 6-2 morning loss to host Georgia Southern at Eagle Field in Statesboro.
Georgia Southern won for the second day in a row over the Lady Bisons. In the second inning Georgia Southern scored four run. They added another in fifth and one in the seventh. All of the Georgia Southern runs came on only five hits.
The Lady Bisons connected for eight hits, but managed only a run in the second and another single run in the third.
"Campbell hit the ball well all weekend," Lipscomb coach Kristin Peck said. "She is starting to look more comfortable at the plate. She is starting to get more line drives which is always a good sign.
"Lauren gets our offense going. If she doesn't get on base Leigh Little is right behind her to pick her up. They have been working pretty well together."
With one out in the second inning shortstop Abby Keese reached base on a single up the middle. She was replaced with Abigail Craig as a pinch-runner. Craig moved to second on a wild pitch. Campbell singled to center field to move Craig to third. Campbell then stole second. Catcher Jennifer Allsup brought in Craig with a sacrifice bunt.
In the third Dortwegt singled up the middle to open the inning. She stole second. Designated hitter-second baseman Kellie Sirus singled down the left field line to score Dortwegt.
Kim Jacobson even her record at 2-2 with the loss. She pitched six innings and allowed five earned runs. She struck out three and walked one. She also hit three batters.
Campbell came on in the seventh after Campbell had faced two batters and allowed one more run and stopped the next three batters in order.
"Every inning they scored there were errors, wild pitches, walks and hit batters," Peck said. "Kim didn't pitch a bad game in terms of the number of hits she allowed. But errors, walks, several wild pitches and hit batters make it tough to win a ballgame when you are making those kind of mistakes."
