Lipscomb volleyball coach looked into the history book and noticed something interesting.
Anyone who is alarmed over the Lady Bisons 3-11 start can compare this season to last season's 3-13 beginning. Last year's team qualified for the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and advanced to the semifinals.
"It is almost identical going into conference play this season," said Rosenthal. "I am not worried that we have an 11-game losing streak. That sounds like a huge, overwhelming number, but you have to break it down and look at who we have played. I know this is the toughest schedule we have ever played.
"In the Kansas State Tournament we played great against Wichita State and Montana State. In the Memphis tournament we played extremely well the second day. There were some missed opportinities. The California tournament might have been our weakest showing."
The Lady Bisons lost 30-22, 30-20 and 30-18 at Richmond, Ky.
"The first game we had too many hitting errors and let the game get away from us around the midway mark," said Rosenthal. "We fought back, but the lead was a little too much to overcome. In game two there weren't as many hitting errors, but we didn't do as much offensively. In game three we got off to a slow start, but we came back at the end and really fought hard at the end."
Rosenthal stressed that the team is still going through some identity issues and adjustments in personnel.
"This is a big week for us," said Rosenthal. "I hate to say we are right where we want to be because we don't want to be in an 11-game losing streak, but team-wise and mentality-wise our players are on the right track."
The Lady Bisons play their first home match of the season Tuesday against Austin Peay at Allen Arena. Eastern Kentucky is 8-7.
