Ryan Chastain, a sophomore, finished third overall with a blistering 8-K time of 24:48 to lead the Lipscomb men to a fourth place team finish in the Evansville Invite Saturday.

Chastain's time was his fastest ever 8-K and the first time he has dropped below the 25-minute barrier. His time was also an astounding one minute and fourteen seconds faster than his time for this race last year.

"Ryan Chastain ran an amazing race," said Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor. ".Each week he takes another step into that upper tier of collegiate runners. Jordan Wilson was again consistent, while the rest of the team really stepped it up. "

In 12th place, teammate Jordan Wilson posted his best 8-K time ever (25:54), 26 seconds faster than his time here last year.

In a season that has seen PR's every week, nine of Lipscomb's 11 men ran their fastest 8-K time ever Saturday.

Freshman Jeff Hoover covered the course in 26:38, sophomore Jared Carlson followed close behind in a time of 26:41 despite taking a fall late in the race and freshman Jonathan Williams rounded out the Lipscomb top five in a time of 26:57. Carlson's time was 25 seconds faster than his time on this course last year.

Clint Carter bettered his lifetime best in a time of 27:13, while freshmen Paul Wright and Ryan Bell rounded out the top eight in all time bests of 27:25 and 27:26. Andrew Shankles, usually a top four runner for the Bison, struggled late to a time of 27:35. While not his PR, it was still nearly a minute faster than his time on this course last year. Jacob Nelson ran a PR of 28:51 while battling an injury and Tim Cotton was the final finisher for Lipscomb in a time of 28:57.

The men ran without a top 3 runner, sophomore David Wolfe who has a leg injury.

"Each week we get better." said Taylor. "The guys really stepped it up as a team. They race smarter, they run faster and they get more aggressive each week. It's been a joy to watch.

"We've had so many PR's this season it's hard to keep up with it all. I know we will race very well at Conference."

The Bisons get next weekend off to prepare for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Oct 27th. Lipscomb University is hosting the championships this year at the Vaughn's Gap course in Percy Warner Park.
