After going eight innings against conference newcomer USC Upstate, the Lady Bisons were unable to put together a run in the final inning, dropping the first game of the doubleheader 8-7.
Sophomore Christen Campbell pitched 1.1 innings of relief to take the loss for the Lady Bisons.
Campbell belted a grand slam over the left center fence in the bottom of the first inning and the Lady Bisons held the lead for seven innings until a three run homer by the Spartan first baseman in the top of the seventh tied the game at 7-7.
Freshman Kim Brasil scored the winning run for the Spartans on an error.
The loss ends an 11-game winning streak for the Lady Bisons.
Game two of the doubleheader is currently underway.
