The Lady Bisons are working towards a win this season. With four newcomers, they are progressing and gaining confidence that will lead them towards a win.

"Everyone is playing really well and all the matches have been extremely close," said junior newcomer, Britt Kuertz. "Everyone is gaining more confidence out on the court."

Kuertz, a newcomer to the team has come to prove herself on the court.

"Britt was a great high school player and Coach Griffith and I are very excited that she decided to come out for the team this year," said Coach Kristin Lusk. "Britt is one of our fiercest competitors on the court and I know that every time she steps out there she wants to win.

Other newcomers include, Kara Jackson and Claire Landry.

"Kara is playing number two for us this year and has had some great matches as well as a big win against UT-Chattanooga's number two," said Lusk.

"Claire is a great doubles player and has drastically improved her singles game since she's been here," said Lusk. "She had several singles wins this fall and dominated her opponent, Krystal Brown from Western Kentucky a few weeks ago."

Returning this season is Mariana Rangel, who was hurt this past fall and did not get much playing time.

"Mariana has had some playing time this spring and is the kind of player who just needs to get some more experience under her belt," said Lusk. "As soon as she does, I expect her to really take off."

The team has had six matches as of February 24th. They will host Atlantic Sun Conference newcomers USC-Upstate on March 7th.

Possibly, one of the most exciting matches this season was at Western Kentucky. Raphaela Jann and Claire Landry picked up wins in both singles and doubles.

Jann defeated Erin Fulkerson 6-3 and 6-2. Landry defeated Krystal Brown 6-1, 6-1. The two also defeated Brittany Waiz and Brown with a score of 8-1.

"Jann and Landry had a great night at Western Kentucky," said Lusk. "They both picked up wins in singles and doubles. They got ahead quickly against the team of Waiz and Brown and never let them back in the match.

"Jann is so smart on the court and I hve seen her frustrate her opponents numerous times this year with her consistency."

The Lady Bisons are a young team that have yet to receive a win this season.

"We are so close to winning more matches," said Landry. "I think we could work on recognizing important points when they come our way and closing out more matches."

The next match is versus USC-Upstate on March 7 here at Lipscomb.
