The Bisons Soccer Team beat visiting conference foe USC-Upstate 4-0 Sunday afternoon.
Lipscomb put the game out of reach early for the Spartans, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half alone.
Freshman mid-fielder Andre Santos put the Bisons on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 21st minute. Shortly after in the 25th minute, freshman Garret Pettis from Elizabethtown, Penn. scored on a combined assist from senior Ricardo Atti and freshman Andrew Chamberlin.
“We knew we could beat Upstate,” Pettis said. “and we started executing right away.”
Just before the end of the first half, forward Tony Garibaldi, a freshman from McMinnville, scored an unassisted goal for the Bisons to make the score 3-0 going into half time.
Lipscomb would continue their offensive attack with Pettis scoring in the 49th minute on an assist from Santos.
“It always feels good to score,” Pettis said. “But my second goal put the game out of reach and that was definitely a good feeling.”
Upstate would answer back once in the remainder of the game, as Chad McCoy scored on assist from teammate Alex Garcev.
Lipscomb goal keeper, freshman Patrick Walsh from Laguna Hills, Cal., recorded nine saves for the game, including a blocked penalty kick.
The Bisons, who are still undefeated in conference play, will travel to Campbell Thursday. The Bisons raised their record to 6-5-2, 2-0-1 in the Atlantic Sun.
The Spartans fell to 1-11 overall, 0-4 in the Atlantic Sun.
“We're feeling good about our season right now,” Pettis said. “We just need to keep doing what we've been doing in conference.”
