Saturday, October 18, 2008The Lipscomb Lady Bisons have clinched a postseason berth for the fourth year in a row.
“We haven’t talked about that,” said Lady Bisons coach Brandon Rosenthal. “We had a great week of practice. We responded well.
“There is no special formula. There is a way to do things. We kind of got away from doing those things.”
The only question remaining is how high they will be seeded. That question could be partially answered Sunday afternoon at noon when they face Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla. Both teams are tied at 10-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings. The game is the A-Sun Game of the Week. Florida Gulf Coast won 3-2 in Nashville.
“What we work for and play for is the opportunity to play great matches,” said Rosenthal. “Win or lose we still have a lot of games ahead of us.
“Gulf Coast is going to do almost everything they did against us two weeks ago. And we are going to do everything we did against them. It is No. 1 against No. 1. We are going to see which team executes the best.”
The Lady Bisons started the second half of the Atlantic Sun round robin with a victory, their 10th of the season.
Saturday afternoon they swept Stetson 25-18, 25-14 and 25-13 in Deland, Fla. No Stetson player finished in double figures in either kills or digs.
“Our players came out and took care of business,” said Rosenthal. “We did a great job of really executing our game plan and playing to our level. We talked about that all week.
“We are doing what we need to do and making adjustments from there. Our players executed the game plan well. Our players did a great job on defense. We put a lot of pressure on Stetson with our serve and also defensively at the net. I thought our players did a great job of stopping Stetson’s momentum.”
Outside hitter Katie Bradley made a match-high 12 kills. She also posted a .360 hitting percentage.
The Lady Bisons as a team finished with a .318 hitting percentage.
Middle blocker Alex Kelly posted her ninth straight double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Libero Jessica Turner made 11 digs for the Lady Bisons.
“I think most teams know we are going to do some great stuff offensively,” said Rosenthal. “When we add the other things we become a pretty complete team.”
The Lady Bisons are 13-8 overall, 10-1 in the A-Sun. Stetson is 2-17, 0-12 in the conference.
