Saturday, February 14, 2009For the second day in a row the Lady Bisons opened with a win and ended the day with a loss in the 23rd annual Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La.
After beating Louisiana Tech 1-0 behind Christen Campbell’s no-hitter Saturday morning, the Lady Bisons fell to Nicholls State 4-0 in their fourth game of the tournament later in the afternoon.
Junior Christy Grisham, who had not seen pitching time since her freshman season, started on the mound for Lipscomb. After getting three quick outs in the first inning, Nicholls scored one run in the second inning and then three more in the third.
Junior Alaina Jacobson came in to relieve Grisham in the middle of the third inning. Grisham struck out one and gave up three hits and four earned runs.
Jacobson struck out four and gave up five hits in her 3.2 innings pitched.
Lipscomb's defense had little help from their bats, with the Lady Bisons scattering four hits throughout the game.
Kellie Sirus continued to lead the Lady Bisons' offense and went 2-3. Campbell and catcher Vanessa Medina each contributed with singles.
"It was a tough game for us," Sirus said. "It showed us we need to make adjustments to get to the level we want to be at."
The Lady Bisons close out the tournament Sunday at 10 a.m. against Providence.
