Tuesday, March 31, 2009Lipscomb baseball coach Jeff Forehand never likes to miss a scheduled game, but he admits he wasn’t all that unhappy that Tuesday’s game at UT-Martin was canceled due to poor weather conditions.
The Bisons did not get back from their trip to Fresno, Calif., until Monday evening. They have a road game at Western Kentucky in Bowling Green Wednesday night at 6 and then return to Atlantic Sun play Friday and Saturday at Kennesaw State.
“This will give us a chance to let our players catch up in school and give us some time to practice a little bit,” said Forehand. “This is a crucial week for us.”
Forehand doesn’t expect the team to have any kind of a drop-off after playing Fresno State in a four-game series. They won the first game of the series, but could not get another win, watching a 6-2 lead disappear into a 7-6 loss Sunday afternoon.
“You don’t like to lose games, but I think we matured a little bit,” said Forehand. “We came back in game two after we gave up 11 runs in one inning. We didn’t win the game, but we handled the situation a lot better than we would have two weeks ago. We would have liked to come with a split, but we grew as a team.
“We all expected to go into the park of the national champions and win. We played well enough in all of the games. We were in every inning except maybe three or four over the weekend. We had a chance to win three games. We are disappointed we didn’t win more games, but happy with some of the things that came out of those losses.”
