Wednesday, April 07, 2010A six-run eighth inning rally gave Tennessee Tech a 12-8 win over the Lipscomb Bisons Wednesday night in Cookeville.
The Bisons lost both games to Tennessee Tech, falling 15-14 Tuesday night at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium. The Bisons held an 8-6 lead before the rally by Tennessee Tech.
The Bisons had two players hit a pair of home runs. Cory Hale hit a solo shot to center field in the third and a two-run homer to right field in t he seventh. Kyle Henry doubled his home run total for the season with a two-run round-tripper to right field in the fourth and two-out homer to right field in the sixth.
Hale has three home runs in his last three games.
Ryan Wilkins hit a triple in the fourth and Lee Wilson added a double.
Overall the Bisons had 10 hits. Lee Wilson, Hale, Wilkins and Henry each had two hits.
The Bisons scored first with a run in the second and added another in the third. In the fourth they put two more on the board to take a 4-1 lead. Tennessee Tech took the lead in the fifth with four runs.
In the sixth the Bisons tied the game with one run. They went ahead 7-5 in the seventh on Hale’s second home run. Tennessee Tech cut the lead to one run with a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Bisons added another run in eighth, before the rally by Tennessee Tech to ice the game.
Right-hander Matt Bowling started the game for the Bisons. He lasted five innings as he gave up six hits and five runs, all earned. He walked five and struck out five.
Josh Cotham, another right-hander, took the loss, his only decision of the season. In 2.1 innings he scattered five hits and allowed five runs, four earned. He walked one and struck out four.
Right-hander Davey Hackett made a rare relief appearance. He gave up two hits and two runs, both earned. He also walked one. He did not get an out, giving up a grand slam home run to Chad Oberbacker.
Right-hander Mike Grace closed out the game with two-thirds of an inning.
The Bisons fell to 10-20. Tennessee Tech is 13-17.
The Bisons return to Atlantic Sun action this weekend with a visit from Kennesaw State Friday and Saturday.
