Will Brewer is the only male golfer at Lipscomb to win a national championship, a feat he accomplished in 1976 when he won the NAIA title.  Brewer involvement in golf continues with his work at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. He spent a few minutes talking with LipscombSports.com about his time at Lipscomb.

What sport did you play at Lipscomb? What years? Who were your coaches?

Golf, 1973-77, Ralph Samples

What is your fondest athletic memory at Lipscomb?

Winning the national championship in 1976.

Who had the biggest influence on you during your athletic career at Lipscomb? How?

Ralph Samples with his psychological wisdom and Don Meyer with his motivation and passion to be the best.

What is your fondest non-athletic memory from your time at Lipscomb?

The Holy Spirit class with Harvey Floyd

What is the most valuable thing you gained or learned from your time at Lipscomb?


Grace is more important than performance.

Who was your favorite professor? Why?

Harvey Floyd.  He really opened my eyes to grace and understanding what that really means and what it means for the Holy Spirit to be your helper.

Vanderbilt Legends Club. I am the General Manager and Director of Golf.

Tell us about your family.

I have three kids and a beautiful and wonderful wife, Sarah who graduated from the University of Mississippi. I have identical twin boys that played collegiate golf at the University of Miss. My daughter is a senior at the University of Mississippi. My oldest twin by seven minutes, William Clark, is getting married in July.
