Saturday, September 04, 2010The Lipscomb Bisons tied a best ever Belmont Opener finish of third overall in the Belmont Opener Friday night at Percy Warner Park.
Middle Tennessee State won the meet with 49 points. Tennessee finished just three points ahead of Lipscomb with 73 to finish second, while Vanderbilt finished just one point behind the Bisons with 77 points.
Tim Muller (SO-Denver, Colo.) led the way for the Bisons with a fifth place overall finish in a time of 15:45 for the 5000-m course.
Three other Lipscomb men posted top 20 finishes with Isaiah Greer in 11th place with a time of 16:02, Mike Yang in 15th place with a time of 16:09 and Geoff Musick in 19th with a time of 16:14.
Muller's time was the fastest ever for Lipscomb on the current course configuration. Greer also ran faster than the previous best Lipscomb time.
“This is a very young men’s team,” Bisons coach Bill Taylor said. “I thought the men ran well and showed that they have the desire. They are going to have to get tighter, and work harder, and I see that they are prepared to do what it takes to take the next step.
“You can see with both teams all that can happen if they want it and believe it. Although we have improved a ton each of the three seasons I’ve been here, this year has a different feel. We are on the verge of something big here. It’s very exciting!”
