Two untimely miscues around the net proved to the difference as East Tennessee State defeated the Lady Bisons, 2-0 at Summers Taylor Stadium in Johnson City Friday.
“I thought we did some things well tonight and anytime you go on the road it’s difficult, especially against ETSU,” Lady Bisons Coach Jon Ireland said. We gave up two goals on goalkeeping errors tonight and that proved to be the difference in the game.”
The Bucs (6-2-1, 2-0 A-Sun) took a 1-0 lead at the 30:06 mark when Courtney Deem scored from 30-yards out, in what was her first goal of the season.
With the Lady Bisons (4-7) trailing 1-0 at halftime, ETSU took a two-goal lead when Kayla White scored off a scramble and deflection in front of the Lady Bisons net.
“Tonight was one of those games that should have been at least 0-0 going into overtime," Ireland said. "They had very few opportunities around our goal so we played good enough defensively to get the game into overtime but unfortunately that didn’t happen.”
ETSU finished the game with a 11-4 advantage in the shots department while each team had two corner kicks apiece.
Erin Zerio played all 90 minutes in goal, finishing with four saves.
The Lady Bisons will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to play USC Upstate on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
