Saturday, February 05, 2011Senior forward Valerie Bronson scored a season-high 18 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Lipscomb Lady Bisons fell 74-59 to Jacksonville Saturday afternoon at Swisher Gym in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Lady Bisons have lost four straight games, all against Atlantic Sun teams from Florida. The Lady Bisons haven’t had much luck with teams from Florida, losing 58-46 Thursday night at North Florida, 78-53 to Stetson Monday night at Allen Arena and 62-51 Jan. 29 against Florida Gulf Coast.
It was the second time this season that Bronson had scored in double figures. She finished with 11 at Austin Peay Dec. 8.
The 18 points marked Bronson’s highest point total in an A-Sun game in her career. Her career high of 20 points was set during the 2007-2008 season against Fisk Nov. 13. She also had 19 points last season in a game with Winston-Salem State in the Morehead State Classic Nov. 20.
The Lady Bisons led 29-28 with 2:07 left in the first half. They trailed 32-30 at intermission.
In the second half the Lady Bisons started strong. They led 38-37 with 17:12 left to play on a layup by Bronson. But Jacksonville went on a 10-2 run and led 47-40 with 11:39 left to play.
The Lady Bisons pulled to within three points of Jacksonville, 47-44, with 9:30 remaining on a pair of free throws by Morgan Faulkner, but would not get that close again.
Also in double figures for the Lady Bisons were forward Hannah Phillips with 12 points and guard Jenna Bartsokas with 10.
Jacksonville also placed three players in double figures led by a game-high 20 points from guard giGi Thomas. Forward Taneskei Richardson added 12 and Crystal Bell finished with 11.
The difference in the game was Jacksonville's success at the free throw line, hitting 20-of-23 shots.
The Lady Bisons are 8-16 overall, 5-10 in the A-Sun. Jacksonville is 11-11, 6-7 in the conference. The Lady Bisons beat Jacksonville 74-69 at Allen Arena Jan. 8.
The Lady Bisons have time to refocus for the rest of the season as they compete for seeding in the A-Sun Tournament. Their next game is not until Feb. 14 at Campbell.
