McGee is on the cusp of several milestones in his final season as a Bison; with 16 saves, he’ll pass Bryan Ayer (2001-03) for third all-time, and needs fewer than 200 minutes to pass J.D. Murphy (2002-05) for most minutes played by a goalie in Lipscomb history.
McGee finished last season on a tear, with a 1.44 GAA over the season’s final nine games, not allowing more than two goals and winning six of those matches.
He was at his best in the Atlantic Sun tournament, posting a 1.00 GAA and making an astounding 15 saves on his way to all-tournament honors. He kept the Bisons in it until the very end, when top-seeded ETSU needed a last-second goal in double overtime to finally defeat McGee and the Bisons, 1-0.
Freshman AJ Schlitt will back up McGee in 2011. The Colgate, Wis., native led Germantown (Wis.) High to the school’s first-ever conference championship in 2010 on his way to being named all-region.
Friday, the Bisons will kick off the regular season with a home match against Georgia State. The game starts at 3 p.m. on the training field behind Cofer’s Chapel Church at the corner of Franklin Pike and Caldwell Lane.
