NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Coming back home after solid play in last weekend’s “Golden Dome Invitational”, the Lipscomb volleyball team returned to Allen Arena on Wednesday night and swept Austin Peay 3-0 (25-11, 26-24, 25-16) to improve to 5-6 on the season.

“After what we did this weekend with two big wins over Portland and Valpo, to come back against an in-state rival that we’ve played every year and be able to execute our game plan like we wanted from the get go,” said Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal.  “It was also important for us to play our style and really kind of impose what we wanted on them and I think you saw that with our transitions.”

Freshman outside hitter Lauren Ford led the way with 14 kills making it three straight matches with double figures for the newcomer.  Junior Kaycee Green also finished in double digits with 10 kills on the night.  Sophomore libero Stephanie Rex was active on the court as well hauling in 13 digs as part of a solid defensive effort for the Lady Bisons.  Lipscomb held Austin Peay (2-9) to a .110 hitting percentage in the contest.

“I thought Lauren Ford coming off a really tough match against Portland, probably one of the toughest matches she’s ever had where she just couldn’t figure it out and they kind of had her number,” said Rosenthal.  “I thought she came out really, really well (tonight).”

Lipscomb roared out of the gate in the first set taking the first five points before eventually cruising out to a 10-2 lead before the Lady Govs could settle in.  Ford played a big role in the 25-11 win in the opening frame with six of her 14 kills.

The second set saw the only time that the Lady Bisons would trail Austin Peay all night as the Lady Govs took the first point but that would be their lone advantage of the evening.  Despite the wide margin in the opening set, Austin Peay refused to quit and took the second set down to the wire with Lipscomb taking a 26-24 win.

The final set of the evening saw Lipscomb again get an early lead by taking five of the first six points and then keep their foot on the pedal for the 25-16 win.

The Lady Bisons now turn toward Atlantic Sun Conference play and defense of the nation’s longest conference winning streak of 35 matches that dates back to 2008.  Lipscomb hits the road to Georgia on Sept. 23rd to take on Mercer before wrapping up the weekend against Kennesaw State.
