NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Firing on all cylinders, the Lipscomb volleyball team opened home Atlantic Sun play in style on Friday night cruising to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-18) sweep of USC-Upstate at Allen Arena.
It looked early as if it would be a tight match in the early part of the first set but Lipscomb (9-6, 3-0 A-Sun) settled into a rhythm and deposed of the Spartans (4-10, 0-2 A-Sun) in the first set and then cruised in the final two stanzas. Junior outside hitter Kaycee Green paced the Lady Bisons with 13 kills and a solid .522 hitting percentage. Freshman Jewell Dobson, who entered the night as the league's fourth-most effective hitter at .299, raised her season average to .322 after hitting a blistering .727 on the night.
I thought we did a nice job of coming out and executing our gameplan," said Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal. "That's the biggest thing for us is being able to take that information we gather throughout the week and put in practice and We always talk about being able to run our offense or being able to run our defense and I thought tonight we didn't allow the other team to dictate the action. We took the action to them."
Lipscomb senior middle blocker Katie Rose added 10 kills thanks to a .526 hitting mark and added eight digs in another solid all-around effort from the veteran. Freshman Megan Stout and sophomore Caitlin Dotson both played key roles on the defensive end as well as both finished with double-figure digs. Dotson added 10 assists as well to collect her third double-double of the season.
"(We did a) great job at the net understanding where there hitters were and reading their offense," said Rosenthal. "I think that led to quite a few digs. Great effort by our middles today. Neither one of our middles had an error. That's a special night."
As a team, the Lady Bisons finished the night with a season-high .392 hitting percentage while the Lipscomb defense held the Spartans to a .126 mark.
The Lady Bisons continue home A-Sun action on Saturday hosting ETSU at 2 p.m. at Allen Arena in a key conference matchup.
