Monday, October 03, 2011

MACON, Ga. – On the heels of leading the Lady Bisons to a perfect 3-0 week, Lipscomb senior Katie Rose has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the league on Monday.

The Lexington, Ky., native opened the week by turning collecting her third double-double of the season against Evansville notching a 12-kill, 14-dig performance.  Rose then helped the Lady Bisons to a pair of A-Sun sweeps over USC-Upstate and ETSU over the weekend.  The veteran blistered the Spartans with a 10-kill night and a .526 hitting percentage on Friday night before torching the Bucs for 13 kills and 14 digs on Saturday afternoon for her fourth double-double of the 2011 campaign.

“I am thrilled that Katie is being recognized by the conference office,” said Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal. “She continues to play extremely well and consistent.  It really is a testament to her drive and determination that Katie continues to lead this team and this week was a great example of that.”

“Tuesday we could have easily given up being down 1-0 and 17-10 in the 2nd, but because of the efforts of Katie and the rest of team it led to a great victory.  As mentioned before, wins in conference are special and they are even more special when players like Katie continue to raise their game to another level.”

Rose was dominant in every aspect of the game last week. Along with her 35 kills in 10 sets, she notched a .354 hitting percentage and a .950 serve percentage to go along with 36 digs and eight blocks.

“While a senior, Katie's game continues to develop and evolve into one of the best in conference,” said Rosenthal.  “Her all-around game sets her apart and was huge in our three victories this week.”

The Lady Bisons continue home A-Sun action this week hosting Belmont on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at Allen Arena. Admission is free and the first 200 Lipscomb students will receive free t-shirts.
