Lipscomb athletics announced the official release of all new logos and marks for the department Wednesday. The new marks include a primary “Lipscomb” wordmark and interlocking “LU” along with a Bison head to be utilized as a secondary mark to accent the Lipscomb brand.
“The updated brand reflects Lipscomb’s position as an NCAA Division I institution,” said Director of Athletics Philip Hutcheson. “The marks will allow us to increase the visibility of Lipscomb throughout the nation while also respecting the rich tradition of our department.”
The logos were created by the design team of Luke Flener of Prolific and Logan Hartline of Hartline Studio. Flener and Hartline are both Lipscomb graduates.
“We aimed for a classic but fresh design in our new marks,” said Trevor Garrett, associate athletic director for external affairs. “The traditional design represents Lipscomb’s legacy of athletic success. Our new logos also incorporate some of the latest design trends giving the marks a fresh feel as a growing Division I school.”
The updated Bison head was created from the now-retired Bison logo which had been utilized since the mid-1990’s.
The Bison’s official colors have changed slightly and now match the University’s colors. The official gold is now PMS 130 and the official purple is PMS 2695.
Over Christmas, Don Meyer Court at Allen Arena was sanded and repainted with the new marks. The Lipscomb wordmark now stretches from three-point line to three-point line. The “LU” mark and Don Meyer Court logo have been placed on each side of the half court line.
Lipscomb athletics has been actively testing a mascot name change over the last month utilizing the more commonly used Bison instead of Bisons. As a way for Lipscomb fans to contribute their thoughts, a fan poll of “Bison” versus “Bisons” will commence tomorrow on LipscombSports.com
All media outlets that reproduce or display the Lipscomb athletics logos are asked to replace the old logos with the new logos. The “LU” mark should be the primary version utilized by media.
Vendors wishing to reproduce the new trademarked logos are required to be licensed through Licensing Resource Group. LRG can be reached through Brad Coley, Lipscomb’s brand representative, at 336-896-7907.
