NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb baseball team heads to Spartanburg, S.C., this weekend to open Atlantic Sun Conference play against USC Upstate beginning on Friday night at 5 p.m.
The Bison (7-10) open league play against the Spartans (12-3) at the Cleveland S. Harley Park on the Upstate campus. Lipscomb senior righty Connor Sinclair (2-1, 1.88 ERA) is scheduled to go up against Upstate lefty David Rosebloom (3-0, 3.38 ERA) on Friday night under the lights.
“You play all of those non-conference games to prepare you for this,” said Lipscomb head coach Jeff Forehand. “In the Atlantic Sun, every team that you play week in and week out is going to be a good baseball team. We feel like we’ve prepared ourselves for that.”
Saturday’s contest will feature Lipscomb junior righthander Josh Cotham (1-1, 2.55 ERA) toeing the rubber against Upstate
“Upstate’s got a very good record,” said Forehand. “They’re a very good team just like everybody we play in this league. We’ve got to be on our ‘A’ game to try and combat what they’re going to do.”
Sunday will see Lipscomb junior southpaw Blake Fonfara (1-2, 5.94 ERA) battle against Upstate righty Brandon Lee (2-1, 3.00 ERA).
The Bison enter the contest hitting .268 as a club compared to .296 for the Spartans.
