NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb volleyball team is looking for two wins this weekend against Jacksonville on Friday night at 6:30 and North Florida on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Allen Arena.
The Lady Bisons (4-8, 1-0 A-Sun) are coming off their first road and conference win of the season as LU defeated Northern Kentucky 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Junior Caitlin Dotson and sophomore Lauren Ford both set new career-highs. Dotson had 54 assists, while Ford made 20 kills. Sophomore Jewell Dobson tied a career-high with 16 kills and senior Kaycee Green had a season-high 17 kills.
Dotson needs five more assists to track down her 1,000th career assist. On the season, the Louisville, Ky., native has had six matches of 40 or more assists in a match and leads the team with 445 assists.
“All in all I thought we played well,” Lipscomb head coach Brandon Rosenthal said about the Northern Kentucky match. “There’s a lot to be gained from an experience like that. I think the composure of our team was tested there and I was really impressed.”
Jacksonville (2-11, 0-0 A-Sun) is 2-3 in its last five matches and is led by Sammie Strausbaugh (127 kills), Kendall Courtney (401 assists) and Nicole Teplitz (122 digs). LU is 9-4 against the Dolphins, but the Lady Bisons have won the last nine meetings.
North Florida (8-4, 0-0 A-Sun) is the hottest team in the A-Sun. The Ospreys will take their seven-match winning streak to Northern Kentucky before playing against LU. North Florida is led by Paige Pridgeon (142 kills), Britt Claessens (427 assists) and Nicole Baran (266 digs). LU is 7-2 against the Ospreys, as the Lady Bisons have won the last seven meetings.
“Both Jacksonville and North Florida have new coaches,” Rosenthal said. “It will be interesting to see their style of play. Anytime a new coach comes in, they bring in a different mindset and different style of play.”
The Lady Bisons head down to Georgia to play Kennesaw State on Friday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. followed by Mercer the next day at 2 p.m.
