The Lipscomb Lady Bisons are 0-3 in the spring tennis season, but sophomore Jenny Borck sees improvement each time they hit the court.
“We have a lot of young players and they are having to get used to playing dual matches,” Borck said. “They showed they were a lot more comfortable on the court this past weekend.
“They all have really positive attitudes. They have me feeling more excited about matches this season.”
The Lady Bisons fell 7-0 to Middle Tennessee Friday night and lost 6-1 to Evansville Saturday. Borck and her doubles partner Deahna Welcher picked up wins in each match, but the Lady Bisons failed to earn the doubles point either time.
Borck and Welcher are roommates. They played on and off as a doubles pairing last season.
“We spend a lot of time together,” Borck said. “We have a lot more chemistry now on the court. I always know where she is, and I always know what she is going to do.
“She is a good person. She always can get me up when I’m down.”
The two form a successful doubles team, but each one has different strengths and weaknesses.
“Deahna hits harder than I do so she can stay back and hit winners,” Borck said. “I play angles more. I try to outlast the other player. I try to keep them on the court for a long time.”
Borck won the only singles match of the weekend for the Lady Bisons beating Evansville’s Emily Richardson 6-4, 6-0.
Borck is very confident that the Lady Bisons will be ready when Atlantic Sun matches start in March.
“This is a different team than last year,” Borck said. “All of the players have a lot of energy. They all have really great attitudes and they work really hard.”
This Saturday the Lady Bisons will be visited by Tennessee-Chattanooga for a 5 p.m. match at Richland Country Club.
“Chattanooga is a good team,” Borck said. “We are familiar with them. They have a lot of good players. It will be good for us to play them and face another challenge.”
