NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After playing through nearly three hours of snow on Friday afternoon, the Lipscomb baseball team had to endure Old Man Winter again on Saturday in a 24-9 loss to Butler on Saturday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh stadium.
The Bulldogs (4-4) erupted for a 9-run first inning and never looked back en route to the win over the Bisons (4-7). After Lipscomb answered with a run in the first, Butler countered with three runs in the second and two runs in each the third and fourth innings to jump out to a 16-1 advantage.
Lipscomb showed life in the fourth inning with a four-inning frame behind a grand slam from junior right fielder Drew Adams. That made it a 16-5 contest before the Bisons added a pair in the fifth inning on a 2-RBI triple from senior centerfielder Zach Lowery that plated fellow seniors Gray Hutchinson and Taylor Stewart.
Butler went on to add eight runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Bisons. Lipscomb added two in the eighth on a 2-RBI double by sophomore first baseman Griffin Moore to round out the scoring.
Senior righty Davey Hackett took the loss for Lipscomb giving up nine unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning. In all, the Bisons would use six pitchers on the afternoon with only senior lefty Blake Fonfara escaping without a run being tagged to him by working the ninth.
Kyle Kramp improved to 3-0 on the season for Butler allowing three earned runs in five innings of work. Kramp scattered 10 hits along with walking one and fanning three.
The three-game series concludes on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Dugan Field. With temperatures scheduled to be below 40, admission is free.
