NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb women’s tennis team ended the regular tennis season on a mixed note, losing the home match to the University of North Florida 6-1 on Saturday.
Despite the loss, Lipscomb coach Andrew Harris saw some positives from the team’s play.
“We really wanted to go out and give the girls a great opportunity today,” Harris said. “I think they did a good job of staying focused in the doubles.”
Harris complimented the efforts of the doubles team of Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck, who won their match 8-4.
“I think Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck really did a good job in their doubles match – not just getting ahead, but staying on top,” Harris said. “And, I think that’s going to be a great doubles combination coming for us over the next two years as they continue to grow stronger.”
Harris spoke again of Borck’s play in the singles, noting her steadfast mindset in her 7-6, 6-3 victory.
“On the singles side, I think that they pressured us early by getting out in front, but a lot of credit goes to Jenny Borck for her match for staying the course,” Harris said. “I think Jenny is really going to be a great staple for this group also next year, so I was really proud of her and the way that she showed a lot of mental fortitude in her match.”
Harris said that UNF put up a good fight, and that the group has good leadership under North Florida coach Audra Cohen.
“At the end of the day, you’ve got to give UNF a lot of credit,” Harris said. “They’re a solid team. Audra does a good job with those girls, and I think they’re going to do some good things in the tournament.”
